Nepal – Support for Women
In 2016 I was introduced to the work being done to support the ladies in Nepal.
There is an old tradition called Chhaupadi which is a form of menstrual taboo which prohibits Nepalese women and girls from everyday activities while menstruating. Women are banned from their houses and made to live outside – in cattle sheds or makeshift dwellings.
They are restricted from participating in everyday life events and community interaction.
In 2016 I was introduced to the work of making Sanitary Kits and it immediately became a passion. We had been invited to go to Nepal and teach the women to make their own so, in 2016 we went to one village and spent three days with women there. Two years followed with visits to 7 plus villages showing women how to make their own. Here on Australia I had wonderful help to make many kits to take until Covid closed us down.
However, the work goes on, I have over 200 kgs to take when I can go again.
My greatest pleasure is to watch young ladies sew their own and begin their own empowerment journey.
